Fire Alarm Engineer

Main Duties and Responsibilities


• Carry out scheduled routine works in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner in line with our clients’ quality standards
• Carry out all other necessary works required at customer premises in accordance with our client’s quality standards
• Give prompt and efficient attention to emergency call outs received during working hours including outside of working hours
• Support the rota schedule as required to maintain a reliable and responsive out of hours service for our clients customers
Effectively communicate with our clients’ customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status, particularly system defects that affect its correct function
• Indicate to our clients customers any Fire Safety information relevant to the site
Liaise with service administrators to ensure service commitments are met
• Plan own work, including routine service/maintenance visits, emergency call out requirements and remedial repairs and minor additions to existing installations in line with service administration guidance
• Ensure legible and timely completion of our clients’ paperwork as required
• Be responsible for the management and security of own equipment stock in an efficient and economical manner by determining stock levels in relation to work activities and ordering stock items as and when appropriate
• Operate in accordance with our clients requirements, Company and customer’s quality standards and health and safety requirements
• Discuss and recommend suggestions for system/service improvement with Line Manager
• Attend training sessions identified by our clients and identify and communicate to Line Manager any personal training and development needs


Technical Knowledge:


• 17th Edition qualified (with 2/3 years experience)
• Full and detailed understanding of BS5839 Part 1
• Completed Units 1, 4, 5, 6 and 8 of BFPSA Training
• Has a comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm problems, including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system
• Basic Electrical Safety training (ECA)
• Manufactures training in all other equipment required. This may include HSSD, Radio and Fire Suppression and will be decided by the Line Manager based on regional needs
